Best Way to Spend a Sunday

So Sunday night I got to spend the evening planning our anniversary trip.

To say I am excited is an understatement.  I am freaking over the moon about this.  A while back I wrote a blog entry Celebrating a Milestone telling you guys about the fact that in 2011 Captain Kidd and I are going to celebrate twenty years of marital bliss.  And believe me when I say it has been total bliss, no that is not sarcasm, but okay it really is.

So after a lot of sex for getting my way a great discussion on the pros and cons of us taking a real trip he finally agreed.  I narrowed it down to the points of interest I really wanted to see and he grudgingly picked one.

We are taking a cruise.  Now it should be noted that the main reason he went with this one is because we get four ports of call in a week for a price that if we were to go to Bora Bora wouldn't even buy us the plane tickets needed to get there.  Never mind the cost of staying at the great resort I had picked out.  Of course that could have something to do with fact that the rooms were about, hold your pants on this one, $5,000.00 a night.  You got that right?  Not for a week, but for a night.  Yeah, the cruise looked really good to him after that.  I swear I didn't plan it that way, and no, my fingers are not crossed behind my back.  I swear.  Kind of.  Sort of.  Hey, how did that happen?

Anyway, today we put the final plans in motion.  We are going to some great ports of call, and we are going to take in some amazing sites.  He is getting his way on the shore excursions so that means no Indian ruins and no tours of old houses.  Instead we will be taking a snorkeling trip, riding in a glass bottom submarine where we will be submerged below the water and taking a trip via a 60 foot Cigarette boat.  Yes, he likes speed and water, what can I say.

But I got a couple of the things I wanted too.  Instead of staying in an interior stateroom we splurged and got a balcony room.  We will be dining at one of the very exclusive restaurants on the ship for our anniversary and in one of the ports we are visiting I get to spend the whole day shopping.  Thank God for credit for credit cards.

So last night was a very good night.  A very good night indeed.  Tell me, what was the best trip you and your significant other have ever gone on and I don't care if it was only an over night trip in a tent in the back yard.  Just tell me already.

if by significant other, you mean me myself and i? well the best trip WE ever went on was probably my semester in london. of course, that encompasses the weekend trips to paris, ireland, wales, and a spring break trip to italy.

man, i still thank my parents for funding that bill. what an AMAZING way to spend the spring semester of my junior year.

Your cruise sounds wonderful! I know you're going to have a great time. :)

Hands down, the best trip TG and I ever took was when we sold our house, quit our jobs, and spent six months back-packing around Europe. (Probably not the smartest way to spend the little money we had, but hey, the memories are priceless.)

uh... I haven't gone on that special trip yet. I had tickets to go to London and instead I got to stay home to get an emergency wisdom teeth removal while my hubby partied in Hong Kong. Our honeymoon was spent in a ramshackle hotel in Zion's National Park and I got heat stroke off our first hike. It rained cats and dogs at Mt. Rushmore and our tent had a leak.

I could go on, me and trips are bad news. Sometimes staying home is safer. Have fun on your cruise!!!

Well first of all, I'm packing right now to go with you on a trip...
Second, hmm...we did the Tennessee cabin thing a few years back and that was romantic.
Pftt...Romance...what is that anymore?

This sounds fab! You'll love the balcony stateroom, too. MY SO and I are 20 years in January - did you and I already discuss that? Anyhoo, we've had so many wonderful trips together, it's hard to pick just one. I suspect this year, despite the round number, will be limited to a weekend in Vegas. Which is okay - they have beds there, right? ;-)

Abby: I love the idea of traveling but don't know if I would be brave enough at this age to do it alone. When I was younger, absolutely. Now, I enjoy the company hubs brings even if it is just a road trip to see the family.

Linda: I think the idea of back packing through Europe is fabulous and this is why I want to be you. No way would I EVER convince my hubs to do that. He worries. He would not enjoy the experience, but I want to hear all about this. Where did the inspiration for this come from? Man that sounds so awesome.

Alyson: LOL. I have a friend who is the exact same way. She says the trip gods keep telling her to stay at home and she keeps tempting the fates by going, but she always looks back on the disasters and laughs. Of course that is years after the actual trip.

Candy: Sure, come on down. It's gonna be a great trip.

Jeffe: No I didn't know you and your SO would be celebrating 20 too. Congratulations. What a great milestone. Of course my boss and her SO will be celebrating 40, so they call us babies. I love that.

When I met my hubs we were both stationed over seas in Japan and we did see quite a lot of the far east then. Hong Kong, Korea, Thailand, Mainland Japan (yes there is a difference) and I enjoyed each and everyone of those trips. We have been all over the states Cali, Vegas, Arizona, Texas, and all up and down the East Coast. But for whatever reason when we settled back in the states we made an unconscious decision to only travel in the states, so I am really looking forward to this trip.

I promise to keep all of you apprised of how it goes.

Thanks for stopping by today ladies.

Congrats on 20 years! I'd have to twist my husband's arm too to get him to take a cruise - unless it was through Alaska. Not my idea of a fun cruise. I like to be warm.
