It's all about who you celebrate with

So this week I have a birthday coming up.

I am going to be 41.  I look at that number and I ask myself, "where did the time go?"

It seems as if it were only yesterday, I was so excited about turning sixteen.  What a milestone that one would be, I can remember thinking.  I could not wait for that day to arrive.

The next major birthday that I looked forward to was my twenty-first.  By this time I was already overseas, stationed on the island of Okinawa.  This birthday was a milestone for more than just the fact that I was now 21.  This was also the night that I met my future husband.

Of course I still had the luxury of thinking thirty was old.  But back then I am pretty sure I thought twenty five was old.

Turning thirty was the one I had a hard time with.  To this day I am not sure why.  It seemed to signal the end of the carefree days that I associated with my twenties.  The party years so to speak.

When forty came, I was ready.  I was no longer fixated with the idea of getting older, just getting.

This week another birthday will come and go.  My husband and I will take the day off.  He will take me to my favorite restaurant for lunch and we will have calamari, oysters and a couple of blue moon beers.  After, we will spend the rest of the afternoon lazing around the pool.

The day will end with me blowing out two tacky candles on the most amazing cake my husband makes for me.  How lucky am I?

So how did you spend your last birthday and who did you spend it with?

Aw, you're still just a baby. Women don't even reach full-bloom until they're at least 45. ;)

Sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate to me. Make sure there's a slice of orange in your Blue Moon. And enjoy! :)

I spent mine with friends and we went to dinner and out for drinks. It was great.

Aw! Congrats and may it be a fan-freakin'-tastic year!

I can't remember what we did for my birthday. It's in November; it was too long ago and I'm older than you so it's probably one of them senior moments. This year, I will turn 45. Yikes, it actually hurts to say that out loud. 40 was hard and every year after has been hard. I didn't mind turning 21 or 30.

I think that's because everything still worked the way it was supposed to. When I hit 40, it was like the warranty expired and everything broke down. Aches, pains, endless medical visits for various ailments. I get out of bed in the morning and grunt, reach for a bottle of whatever pill I'm taking that day before I even look in a mirror.

I'm glad you're celebrating it, embracing it even. You make me look forward to November !

I'm so going to Hell for saying this, but it always makes me feel better when I realize that there are people out there that are older than me. :) Anyway, Happy Happy Happy Birthday!!! I hope you have a good one!

Ladies:

Thanks for stopping by and the good wishes. I so appreciate them.

Linda: It's not a blue moon without the orange, but from now I will be more clear on that. Thank you.

Candyland: I am going to check out New Medicine when I download their music tonight.

Patty: For me I guess I look at it as is if things my be slowing down, but my mind is getting sharper and sharper and I have had opportunities business wise, that I could not have handled during those younger years. As I do better professionally I can really enjoy it now, way more than I would have back in the day.

Karla: You are right...you are going to hell.

Abby: Don't worry, I know exactly who you are and thanks for the sentiment. I like the idea of 'just getting' too. It's like my version of Nike's Just do it!

Thanks for stopping by ladies and for the birthday wishes. I really appreciate all of the love and support you guys give me on a daily basis and to @crzywritergrl I know you are here...reading and commenting...if silently. Thanks.
