Keeping it all straight in my Twitterverse

As you can see I have updated my blogger template.  I have been thinking that I wanted to make a change, but I wasn't sure where I wanted to go with it.  So, while I was in the middle of a long NCIS marathon yesterday, in between cleaning and laundry, I worked on making changes.  What do you guys think?  And tell me the truth, I can handle it, I promise.

I was going to work on my twitter background as well.  By the time I started to write this I had not come up with anything that I wanted so I am still looking.

I did spend some time on twitter this weekend looking at the latest followers who are stalking me there.  I was surprised by the number and truly flattered.  I started looking at profiles and seeing who I had common interest with and if there was anyone I would be interested in following back and...man did that give me a headache.

Currently I have close to 200 followers and am following back just under that amount.  To me these numbers are huge, but in the land that is twitter, just a drop in the bucket.  One of my twitter buddies made a comment last week about her numbers that got me thinking, how the heck does everyone keep up with everyone they are twitter stalking?  Because for me, I am having a really hard time with it.  I want to interact with these friends I have made via twitter.  I enjoy bantering back and forth, but I don't have enough hours in the day to communicate or comment on every tweet that comes across my deck.

So here is what I want to know.  How do you guys do it?  Is there some special trick to making sure that you stay on top of your social networking obligations?  I hate the idea that I may be neglecting some of my favorite folks.  Also, do you guys see tweets scroll and wonder who in the heck that person is?

  1. I wonder who the heck is tweeting all the time for sure! Can't figure out why I added them or how I see them. It just happens!!!

As far as my social networking obligations I try not to think of it that way. I think of it as a favorite past time. I'm not always able to enjoy dinner with friends, but when I do I make the most of it. Same goes with blogging. I do my best to stay in the zone but when I can't I know my buddies understand me.

The world is brutal, but with writer's I feel less like they want to punch me when I don't visit.

    Happy Monday!

  2. I like your new look. :)

Re Twitter: I'd love to play there all the time, but alas, I do have books to write too. I just pop into conversations as I can, and hope my tweeps understand.

P.S. I'm maligning you over on my blog today. Just thought you'd like to know. ;)

  3. twitter is hard to keep up with at times and so i just do the best i can. when i'm on, i hope to be in as many conversations as possible and when i'm not, i hope people don't forget about me!

i have found the @abbymumford button handy because i can see who has directly referenced me and use that as a starting place for the conversations.

i like the new blog look. :)

  4. It is VERY hard to keep up with everyone. I try to have personal conversations on Twitter whenever I can. And I have lists. Some of pubic, some are private. I use those to try to keep up with my favorites.

But honestly, between Twitter and blogging, trying to get published and, oh yeah, real life, it just isn't possible to keep up with everyone. It makes me sad, but that is the reality. So I think we all just do the best we can and whatever works best for us.

That wasn't at all helpful, was it?

  5. I try to keep up with the tweeps I care most about, and that seems to be my writing tweeps---including, of course, YOU! I have over 500, but I feel like I only interact with a fraction of them. Not sure who some of them even are? You'd have to be on twitter all day long to banter about with everyone....and then you'd just be an online troll with no real life--and that would be kinda weird, hee!

  6. I use Tweetdeck and lists. And I dip in and out. If I try to "keep up" I lose my mind.

  7. @Abby I just discovered that not too long ago. I plan on thinning the herd at twitter its so much to keep up with and I have no interaction and nothing in common with many.
I hope no one hates me afterward but things are cluttered and confusing. If someone doesnt interact i see no point in following anymore.
